About ETM-CO
In far too many schools, hallways, classrooms, and auditoriums have gone quiet as music has become a luxury rather than a given. Education Through Music-Colorado (ETM-CO) exists to reverse that trend by restoring sustained, high-quality music education where it would otherwise be absent.
With more than 30 years of experience, Education Through Music (ETM) has grown into one of the nation’s leading nonprofit providers of comprehensive, in-school music programs, reaching more than 300,000 students nationwide over its history.
In 2018, ETM-CO was launched as the fastest-growing affiliate in the national network, adapting this proven model to the specific needs of Colorado schools and communities. In the 2025–26 school year, we are reaching more than 5,000 students.
Of these, 3,000 attend schools unable to offer music, where we provide direct, in-school instruction and extracurricular ensembles. An additional 2,500 students are reached through educator professional development and coaching programs that support the teachers who serve them.
ETM-CO partners closely with school leadership to ensure the long-term sustainability of music programs, supporting schools until music teachers become permanent members of staff and enabling resources to be reinvested in schools still waiting for music to return.

Why Music Matters
Music education plays a critical role in helping children build the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond. Research conducted across ETM partner schools shows that access to high-quality, in-school music education has a measurable impact on student development, particularly in areas that matter for lifelong growth. 95% of students participating in ETM programs gained self-confidence, alongside improved focus, attention, and the ability to collaborate and listen.
These outcomes extend into academic learning as well. Schools report stronger math achievement and improvements in reading and writing, as music reinforces pattern recognition, discipline, and problem solving. Just as importantly, music strengthens school culture and belonging. 94% of students and families felt more welcome at school, and teachers observed stronger teamwork and engagement in the classroom.
The confidence built through music, learning to practice, perform, listen, adapt, and persist, does not fade with age. These are the same foundational capacities that many established professionals recognize as essential in their own personal and professional journeys, regardless of field.
By keeping music at the core of education, ETM-CO helps ensure that children develop the confidence, resilience, and mindset they will carry into whatever future they choose, reflecting the connection that Musicianship in Business brings to life.
